As Program Director for River City Company, Meagan Shinn is on a mission to build programs that attract Chattanoogans to a vibrant downtown. Joining River City Company’s team in 2015, Meagan has a solid background in community engagement and event management.

At River City Company, Meagan works to animate Downtown Chattanooga by creating programs that build a sense of belonging and community in our city. By establishing partnerships with community organizations and businesses, Meagan seeks to create regular programming that allows the downtown workforce, residents and visitors to experience our city as an active, cultural and vibrant place. She organizes River City Company’s public programs like Clean & Green, Park(ing) Day, Passageways and Startup Week Chattanooga while also responsible for ongoing community activities in Miller Plaza like Noontunes, City Sweat and Basecamp. In her role at River City Company, Meagan also focuses on activating the Innovation District, engaging UTC students and making Chattanooga a more bikeable and walkable city.

In 2016, Meagan managed River City Company’s role to launch Passageways with AIA Tennessee, a public architecture exhibit focusing on the urban fabric that exists in the space between our city’s buildings. Four alleyways in City Center host five installations designed by teams from Chattanooga, New York and Australia. Meagan has worked to program the alleyways with community-led, cultural events to showcase the art installations while also increasing foot traffic in City Center.

A native Chattanoogan and graduate of Girls Preparatory School, Meagan went on to graduate from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. She serves on the board for The Hart Gallery, and is a member of The Edney Innovation Center Advisory Committee, Girls Preparatory School Alumnae Council, Startup Week Chattanooga Committee and Chattanooga’s Emerging Urbanists.

When asked what she sees in Chattanooga’s future, Meagan envisions a vibrant downtown, friendly to pedestrians and cyclists with interactive public art and technology. She hopes to see pockets of green space, live music and open markets as a part of our daily city life. The convenience of having an active downtown scene minutes away from outdoor adventures is one of her favorite things about Chattanooga. Outside the office, Meagan enjoys hiking, biking, live music and yoga.
