In the May-June 1999 issue of Utne Reader, Chattanooga and nine other cities were named in the magazine's list of "The Ten Most Enlightened Towns in America." The magazine states that, "Chattanooga's progress, past and present, demonstrates that problems, however onerous, needn't defeat people who care." Utne selected communities that deal "creatively with the challenges they face, places that can provide both inspiration and practical ideas about how to improve life in your hometown." |
