In the November 1998 edition of Shopping Center Business, Chattanooga was selected as one of ten cities that lead in urban retail. "Chattanooga is fast becoming a model for other cities' urban redevelopment plans." It noted that projects continue to pop up around the Tennessee Aquarium and along the Market Street area with the success now infiltrating the surrounding neighborhoods. Mentioned in the Ross's Landing district were an IMAX Theater, Carmike Cinemas, Chattanooga's Big River Grille and the Bluff View Arts District - near the Walnut Street Bridge - a 19th century truss bridge which reopened as the world's longest pedestrian bridge in May 1983. It highlighted Prime Retail's Warehouse Row, a 250,000 mixed-use development opened in 1989 containing designer manufacturers' outlet shops and office space and Jack's Alley - five turn-of-the-century buildings redeveloped by Chattanooga Land Company into a dining and restaurant district. |
