Ask someone in the know about Chattanooga and you quickly hear about public-private partnerships. Local public and private leaders realized in the early 1980s that "working together works." With a decline in large federal subsidies such as revenue sharing and in the face of a fundamental shift away from a heavy industry economy, local leaders realized that if Chattanooga was to progress, it must depend upon its own resources, creativity, and resiliency. This "can do" attitude resulted in creative partnerships that still thrive today. Local governments have partnered with the RiverCity Company, Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise, the Carter Street Corporation and other local entities to help improve the local quality of life for our citizenry. |
