Eleven new solar arrays have been constructed as canopy structures over the parking lot on the south side of Finley Stadium. These arrays can produce 127,000 kilowatt hours of electricity a year. The arrays have 140 to 240 photovoltaic modules, for a total of 2260 modules that can generate up to 77.3 kilowatts of alternating current.
Electricity generated by the modules goes into the Chattanooga Electric Power Board’s electric system and then into the Tennessee Valley Authority power grid. This solar application became operational at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, Tennessee on July 26, 2001.
The Finley Stadium facility is the eleventh location for solar arrays that generate electricity for TVA’s Green Power Switch program. This is the largest thin-film solar installation in the Southeast.
