The Hunter Museum of American Art is housed in a classic southern mansion built in 1904 and also in a newly renovated contemporary building. The Hunter Museum contains the most complete collection of American art in the Southeast. The Hunter Museum was opened in 1952.

The Hunter Museum is part of the Bluff View Arts District located high on the bluffs atop the Tennessee River along one of the most photographed sections of the Riverwalk.

A $20 million addition will be completed in Spring 2005 as part of the $120 million 21st Century Waterfron Plan.
