Bessie Smith Hall, named in honor of the Chattanooga-born "Empress of the Blues," is a 23,255 square foot facility featuring a 264-seat performance hall, a fully equipped "catering" kitchen, a resource library, program activity/rehearsal rooms and a permanent exhibition about the charismatic Bessie Smith.

Located in the same facility, the Chattanooga African-American Museum is a cultural center exhibiting African-American contributions to Chattanooga.  It features a unique collection of African art and a Bessie Smith exhibit.  This unique facility opened in 1996.  National artists including Usher, KoKo Taylor, Freddy Cole and Lavell White have been featured in concerts at the Hall in addition to a host of local and regional artists.  Experts have presented lectures, workshops and musical training for local adults and children.
