Although technically not located in downtown Chattanooga, this project closes the final gap allowing a person to ride a bike, walk or jog along the southern shore of the Tennessee River from Ross's Landing Plaza out to the Chickamauga Dam. Picnic facilities, playgrounds, fishing piers, river and stream overlooks, and public parking and restrooms are located along the entire route.
Few communities in the world have a public amenity of this scope and quality. The Millennium riverwalk segment will link the Rowing Center and the Fishing Park. As the riverside trail passes the Synair Corporation, it moves inland to a trail parking area near Curtainpole Road and Amnicola Highway. From there it crosses several wetland areas on elevated decking in route to the Amnicola Marsh – a protected wildlife viewing area The trail then spans South Chickamauga Creek across a dramatic 400-foot pedestrian bridge. This projected was completed in March 2005.
